Video Of A “Confrontationally Sexual” Performance By OXBOW From Scion Rock Fest 2012! by orlandooom407

Thanks to Keeley Kennhan for sending in these two videos of Oxbow performing at Czar Bar in Tampa on Saturday for Scion Rock Fest. She described their performance as “confrontationally sexual”. I can’t say I disagree.

Scion Rock Fest Set Times Chart (IN COLOR)! by orlandooom407

Scion Rock Fest kicks off tomorrow at 2PM EST in Tampa, Florida. We all couldn’t surpass our current state of elation if we tried. Here’s a handy colorful chart, created by Floridian West Coast native Chris Elmore, to help you in breaking up your evening. Orlandooom contributors and friends are sure to litter to floors of The Rtiz, Czar Bar and The Orpheum. I don’t know about everyone else, but there’s no way I’d miss The Atlas Moth, Sleep, Witch Mountain, Church of Misery or Saint Vitus. Might dip out during Down to catch a peek at Merzbow to complete the day’s sonic overload. Here’s Scion A/V Metal‘s graphical running order too:

Traitors – 2011 Demo by orlandooom407

Another fine example of hardcore that embraces a more slothly crushing pace. Traitors, from Tampa, are playing a Breast Cancer Benefit Show this coming Friday at some church. While I support the cause 100% I find myself befuddled by that setting mixing with such malevolent hardcore. Oh well, fuck cancer, and kudos to whoever finally ends it. Oh, and as Gregor had put it, “this demo is available for the reasonable price of FUCKING FREE” on their Bandcamp page.

The introductory track, conveniently titled: Despaired, introduces the gloom infused mood also elicited by the portrait of Margaret Atwood’s feverish nightmares you see above these pixelated letters. Employing nearly three minutes of misanthropic “doomcore”  carefully subdues you beneath the weight of these riffs. But, then the feed back stops. Track two, lace up the fucking Nike’s. Quickly hurled straight into the most furious build-up that would make any hardcore enthusiast leap to their feet and start swinging the nearest manageable object into the face of their most immediate antagonist. The thundering bass tone totally seals the deal, delivering chunky waves of grime into your ears without even giving you a glancing opportunity to shake off the caustic barrage from these four. The song takes a surprisingly turn away from what felt like the path to a bro-down, but quickly veered into a punishing half-time groove. Finally retarding into a final crumbling declaration of of loathing. Track three re-summons the fury for the previous track, but adds a tinge of gut wrenching dissonance and a wayward blast beat here and there. I won’t spoil the final surprise, but I will say that it was quite satisfying.
