Mike Scheidt of YOB Releases A Music Video For His Solo Project by orlandooom407

YOB front man, guitarist and chakra charmer Mike Scheidt has taken a turn down a more soothing path on his musical journey. He’s completed work on his first debut solo studio effort entitled Stay Awake. Similar to other doom metal icons like Scott Kelly, Wino and Steve Von Till Mike has chosen to record and tour out some of his acoustic material. Scheidt’s music envelopes a more peaceful folk rock feel compared to his aforementioned peers who tend to drown their listener in a more melancholic milieu. Don’t take my word for it, check out this vsually marveling music video and don’t forget to chill out; it is Monday after all.

Stay Awake will be released on June 12 via Thrill Jockey, and you can pre-order it here.

Web Comic Wednesday – The Amazing Mastodad! by orlandooom407

Three posts on a Wednesday?! YEP! Keith Carlson returns to poke a little fun at the newest Mastodon LP: THE HUNTER.

While I’ve heard a lot of harsh criticism for this record, and I definitely won’t say it’s their best release, I feel this record has everything meant to be enjoyed about modern Mastodon contained within. However, my biggest criticisms are that the record feels like it’s out of order and these vocals are wayyyyyyy too flashy. Oh well, the guest vocals provided by Scott Kelly of Neurosis still bludgeon my ears with merciless bellows.

It’s a solid record, but it’s not better than the new Rwake.
