Code Orange Kids – Love is Love // Return to Dust by orlandooom407

If you’ve been paying attention to my Last.fm page, which I hope you haven’t, you’ll notice this record has become part of my permanent musical furniture arrangement. The social media savvy Code Orange Kids are a band that does every single thing a (metallic) hardcore band should in that they keep the listener grooving without compromising the caustic power of a jarring arrangement or spontaneous drum solo to reconstruct as song that had already been blown apart by writhing words and/or dispatched by a wayward calm. What struck me as most fascinating was the kids emphasis for bizarre dichotomies separated by punctuation (like this) // or this. Some songs boast two entirely different sides as they progress, so each song in a way represents a split within itself. Two songs in each song. Regardless of how you like to organize your breakfast on the plate the kids will still cram it all down the back of your throat clutching fork, fist and all. Comparisons to Loma Prieta or Birds in Row need not be taken into account for an apt and optimal listening experience. Even if you’re one of those metal folks that ‘doesn’t do hardcore’, probably because you happened to listen to Confide before discovering Cursed, I would highly suggest clicking play below. If ‘Flowermouth (The Leech)’ doesn’t hook your head into a perpetual bang by the second riff then it just wasn’t meant to be. That said, I feel that this LP wins Album of the Year in my heart so kudos to the band and Deathwish Inc for making it all come together.

Hellbastard / Dresden – 12″ Split by orlandooom407

Hellbastard has been a heavy metal crust favorite of mine for a bit now. However, there’s nothing special about their 3 songed side. I’m not saying it’s bad by any means, just a tad bit generic. It’s as if Axegrinder was over produced in the studio and had guitar lessons. The songs are good, but it sounds too good of a quality to be “ripper crust,” at least in my opinion. Call me a crusty elitist, but you listen to it and let me know if I’m wrong. The Dresden side is where the magic happens. Sounding like an unwashed love child from Tragedy and His Hero is Gone, this side sounds raw worn and pissed. Perhaps that’s why it seems like Hellbastard lost their edge on this split. The entirety of side B, or Dresden’s side, is like a look back in the days of late 90’s/early 2000’s hardcore crust punk, the heavy and angry years. Overall this is a pretty rippin’ split. The Hellbastard side is good, and the Dresden Side is even better. If you get the chance to get your hands on one of these highly limited Vinyls, limited to only 100, I would definitely suggest snagging it while you can. It can only sound better on 12″ of blue and black vinyl.

The split drops tomorrow, and you can order it by clicking here from IL Distro.

Music Video Wrapup by orlandooom407

This segment addresses the memorable music videos that have debuted in the last two weeks. I’ll start doing this weekly, but the first will play a bit of catch up.

Code Orange Kids are a new favorite of mine, and their tenacity is best captured by film maker Max Moore. The bewildering shot sequences of orange hands crawling through grime enhance the filthy fervor the quartet embodies.

Even though I’ve noticed a lot of people are burned out on The Sword I think this video marks an important statement from doom/sludge/stoner bands. I don’t think I’ve seen too many lyric videos that didn’t focus on boy band metalcore. Kudos to the Sabbath worshippers.

If you know of Red Fang you’ve probably watched their wide array of music videos some have largely attributed to their over night success. This video showcases the wild live experience RF embraces without excluding the expected silliness.

Holy flying fetuses Batman! Rwake pulls out the big guns in this extremely graphic montage depicting the destruction of several unidentifiable unborn mammalian quadruped. This one reminds me of a nightmare I had about high school biology once.

The most recently hosted video of the week belongs to Pig Destroyer in support of their newest LP Book Burner. The savagery of placing artillery in the hands of knuckle draggers is depicted here with a wonderful array of psychedelic color variety. You’ll be seein’ purple and green for the next few minutes.

Finally we’ve got Meshuggah’s newest courtesy of Scion AV. This one goes out to Leif Olson and his magic hands with the tattoo gun.

Have a great weekend ya’ll!

Ilsa – Intoxicantations by orlandooom407

Watch out for them golden tiger eyeballs. I hear looking deeply into them instills an unexplainable feelings of subservience leading you into it’s maw for din din. An Intoxicantation never seen before until spewed forth at the hands of DC’s ILSA. Amidst the squealing feed back wearing a cap that reads ‘fuck you’ germinates the masterful creeping pace attributed to any classic death-doom hybrid record. What sets Ilsa apart from bands like Hooded Menace or Atriarch is their uncanny ability to utilize the hardcore punk tangent. Just when you feel the mist rising to meander from the coffin, they’ll kick the damn thing open catching a smog ridden tailwind resulting in an all out down beat sprint to the finish line. The finish line would probably be best described as a carefully assembled row of frothing tiger skulls. I want to bring most of my praise to the 8th track entitled “Fluid Bound”. This just over five minute behemoth of a track encompasses the sheer vigor of riff refraining. It cruises, it bruises and  ignites gasoline soaked mosh fuses.

Intoxicantations will be released November 23rd on A389 Records

Thursday Night Grind Time Features Torch Runner by orlandooom407

This week has proven rather saturated with insane heavy shows for Central Florida. From Swans playing tonight at The Social, the show featured above these words and Tombs and 16 playing Saturday at Will’s Pub the ear plugs are being put to work. What’s wonderful about Thursday in particular though can be answered through viewing this music video created a couple years back by Torch Runner:

Brutal silliness, yes indeed. The space coast punks have a hand in this hot fiasco too because Nuclear Death Squad will perform come Thursday.

To sweeten that pot Devalued from Miami have been tossed into the chaos, and you can preview their music along with local hardcore hammer faces POWERDUMP below:

Core In China Sampler Available Now! by endlessgonzo

A new sampler has come out from the fine folks at Rock In China. This is exciting because we here at Orlandooom are always happy to see new Metal coming from countries normally bereft of heaviness. I am slightly bummed my personal favorite Chinese BM band, Yn Gzarm, isn’t on the sampler, but this is still absolutely killer!
